Allegory of the Cave” Each and every day in this modern society or to be precise in the 21st century we individuals are presented with innovative, new and different pictures through the virtual world that includes the media, government and social networking sites. The allegory of the cave is relevant to today’s world because people today as well as people in the cave blindly followed the views of other people without actually questioning the fact, why something is believed so. There is constantly someone above us in power for example, the government which controls the media constantly. These are the people who think they can control the entire world or as Plato said the “Ones they keep chained.” Thus in today’s world, people’s views are controlled by posts on social media, mass media and advertisements and last but not the least the way of living. We are living in a society where the use of social media has increased to such an extent where people constantly update statuses to express their feelings. Way of living and advertisement goes hand in hand as people believe in what they see but when seen closely most of the things are false. One of the main companies which define way of living for the health conscious society is the diet company. Taking diet coke as an example, most of the people only drink diet coke which is harmful in the future as the sweetener used to make the drink sweet is a source of cancer cells. To relate it to the Allegory of the Cave, I personally think that these people whose ways of living depends on the advertisement and endorsements are similar to the prisoners who just sit back and watch the shadows while the other people who do not believe in advertisement and like to lead a way of life they chose for themselves are like the prisoners who were set
