The play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare is about a man by the name of Macbeth, a Scottish General. The play is centered around the prophecies of three witches who tell Macbeth that he will become the king of Scotland. With encouragement from his beloved wife, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth kills the king, Duncan, and as the witches had predicted, becomes the king. Throughout the play he becomes so paranoid about the murders that he kills all of those who he thinks know. Civil war eventually erupts to overthrow Macbeth and he is killed by the end of the play. Though it can be said that by fate he was bound to die, it is obvious that Macbeth was doomed from the beginning of the play due to one large flaw in his character, ambition.

Lady Macbeth had been often seen using her husband's ambitious personality in arguments between the two in order to get him to do what she wished. An example of this was when they had been intending to murder Duncan and Macbeth became hesitant to do so, when Macbeth had explained to her that he had his concerns and wasn’t sure he could do it she had called him a coward and questioned his sense of manhood. She had done this because she knew that Macbeth’s sense of ambition was very important to him and questioning that only caused him to feel immense rage. Another example of this manipulation was when Macbeth had officially become Thane of Cawdor and they had hosted a dinner and Macbeth had sworn that he was seeing individuals who he had already murdered. He appeared to be having full conversations with no one and Lady Macbeth had stepped in to try to convince everyone that attended the dinner that her husband had just fallen ill and that questioning him would only aggravate him. From the very beginning of the play, Macbeth was doomed by his irrational admiration for his sense of ambition which Lady Macbeth had admired because she knew it could be very easily manipulated.
