American Exceptionalism is built off of an idea of liberty and hope that was ingrained in every American ever since the first president, George Washington. President after president believed that America was a model country, and that America was indeed, exceptional. James Madison said, “The happy union of these states is a wonder; their Constitution a miracle; their example the hope of liberty throughout the world.”. He believed that America would pave the road for every other countries. Many other presidents believed similarly to Madison, and using the power and impact they had on the American culture and society, they made other American’s believe it as well. Unfortunately, presidents of the past could have not expected the turn that America has made today. With factors such as global gas emissions and the national gender pay gap, American’s have started to question how exceptional America really is. A huge issue today, not just in America but also globally is the greenhouse gas emissions being released into our atmosphere. In the past decade, there has been almost no change in the amount of money women get paid compared to men. On average, women get paid seventy-eight cents to every man’s dollar, and the twenty two percent gap can increase depending on occupation, race, and even state.
