To kill a mockingbird is a timeless classic and it lives up to it standard, it's known for it characters, Atticus being an amazing character, and known as the greatest character in literature. The book was so great Harper Lee didn't feel it was necessary, or needed to write another book after this, and why would she? This book said and did enough. It showed many characteristics and themes. An example of theme would be appearance vs. reality. In “To kill a mockingbird” the town Maycomb is so quick to make judgments about people's characters they misjudged Boo, Dolphus Raymond, and Tom Robinson, even though they were just innocent people.

Tom Robinson is a negro, so he is seen as a horrible and guilty man. If looking at the theme of the book being appearance vs. reality, the most obvious case would be the Tom Robinson case, the town sees him as a negro, nothing more than the. The courthouse gets presented with many things that can prove his innocence but the fact that he is a negro and a white woman is accusing him of rape the town is blindsided.Tom was a dead man the minute Mayella Ewell opened her mouth and screamed" We learn how the town thinks he is because of Mayella's sayings because she is a white woman. The town looks down upon him, because of his “actions” but to be told in truth the town looks down on him because he is a negro.His appearance being a negro makes others think that he is a bad man but, in reality, he is an innocent man who was caught up in a wrong situation. In the court, we see Tom is kind, truthful and caring and what his motive. We see how he actually is rather than how the town and people see him. In between all the accusations, Tom tells the truth. We see that he is an honest person, who clearly didn't do what he was accused of doing. Tom’s characteristic is what makes him look bad in front of the court but, we see that he never lies so, you could tell that he is falsely accused and what people say is completely
