THE INTRODUCTION Good morning, my name is Connor Hebler, and it is my pleasure to represent the state of Maycomb and to serve as a prosecutor on this crucial case. On August 26, 1936, atticus finch’s lack of effort in the case of tom Robinson led to his death. THE THEME AND THEORY The theme of this case is pride. Mr finch didn't do his best for tom Robinson because his pride would be damaged. Everyone in Maycomb expected a guilty verdict and if Atticus stopped that from happening, nobody would like or trust him ever again. He was threatened by bob before the case even began, making this story even more likely. He needs to be known and liked by the town to get hired as a lawyer in the future. Finch was thinking only of himself and his career when he defended tom in court. If he doesn't have the pride and trust of people, he can't expect to be hired as a lawyer anymore. The way he did it, no matter what you wanted to happen, you couldn't be mad. He made it look as though he was trying to everyone, but in the end, the verdict was guilty so it doesn’t matter. This loss on his record doesn't mean anything anyway because not even the best lawyer could change racism. ANTICIPATE THE DEFENSE THEORIES The defense might say that Atticus did everything he could and nobody was willing to defend tom. The simple facts of the case show that it is not possible. Mr. Tate brought the facts to the court and Atticus didn’t have him testify for tom. Mr. Tate was most likely closer to both sides of this case than anyone and Mr finch didn't use him or his knowledge as evidence. CONCLUSION To conclude, Mr. Atticus finch wasn't thinking about tom’s life or anything other than his pride and career. Everything that he didn’t do shows that. He had just one witness for a case that involved many people and many others that could have easily seen what had happened, like neighbors.
