Christopher Columbus was one of the greatest explorers known to man. Columbus had many different reasons for his explorations. Later, the main reason for his explorations was selfishness. Just like many other explorers before Columbus, he wanted land, he wanted power, and he also wanted gold. The reason for his very first voyage to what he thought was India, but later was found out to be Central America, was to get land for Spain.
Christopher Columbus was the man credited with the discovery of the New World, even though the Native Americans and possibly the Vikings discovered it before him. He is celebrated as an American hero among many, but among some, he is a monster. Columbus was the man that tried to discover the westward route to the East Indies for the Spanish (14-1), and ultimately, he opened the Americas for colonial expansion to Europe. He is said to have enslaved many Native Americans, committing horrible atrocities to them. The question on the table is whether Columbus was a hero or villain.
Fist off Christopher Columbus will be remembered as both a villain and also be remembered as a good person, so he will be remembered as both. What I will be telling you about throughout these paragraphs is that C.C. is good and bad. I think that Christopher Columbus is both good and bad because he has a lot of reasons on why he is bad and a lot of reasons why he is a good guy. What do you think it is.
It also stated that Columbus could keep 10 percent of any “merchandise, whether pearls, precious stones, gold, silver, spices and other objects” that he “acquired” within the new territory. Columbus may indeed have had noble intentions when he sailed west, but his agreement with Spain suggests his intentions were far from selfless.” Clearly, Christopher Columbus was not a selfless hero. As shown above, a true hero inspires the community, makes an impact, and is selfless.
I think that Christopher Columbus was a good and bad guy. He was truly good to his people, the people that he lead. If you were one to follow
Christopher Columbus Hero or Villain ? Christopher Columbus is a Villain. On some accounts he can be a Hero. But on many other accounts he's a vicious Villain. Yes he discovered America ;
Even though many people believe that christopher columbus was a hero I have found in my opinion that I believe he was a villain. I believe this because in the 4th document in the article about Christopher Columbus it was said that many people and indians were killed after his arrival and before his arrival there were many more people there than after his arrival. The people were killed from war, slavery and working in mines for Columbus. One other reason that I believe he was a villain is because if I was those people who were ruled by Columbus I would have stood up for not just me but everyone who was being mistreated by Columbus.
What do you think about christopher columbus? Is he really what they say about him in the past ? while reading keep in mind these topics, was he really a good man. Celebrating columbus day big topic to talk about because many of we Americans see him as a hero but is he really one. Columbus was a really bad man.
Just around when the international slave trade was starting to grow Columbus and his men captured many people from the west indies and subjected them through violence and cruelty. He forced thousands of people under his rule. Some of these people were sent away to be sold and many of them died on the way. Those who were not sold were forced to work in plantations and gold mines. On Christopher Columbus’s first day in the New World he picked and enslaved several Native americans to become his servants.
This quote from CNN.com stabilizes my statement. “Columbus wasn’t the first to discover the New World. Indigenous people had been living there for centuries by the time he arrived in 1492 and Leif Eriksson and the Vikings beat him to it five centuries earlier.” Columbus had cared very little about his people therefore went even madder consequently when his own brother created a revolt against him. “He treated them and even his own crew very poorly.
I think Columbus should be remembered for the good and the bad things he did. I don't think that Columbus should be portrayed in a good light but I also don’t think he should be portrayed in a completely bad light either. Columbus contributed a lot to today's society without Columbus’s voyage to the Americas we wouldn't be here today. Columbus was one of the brave voyagers who decided to disagree with many people of that time and believe that the earth was round.
Christopher Columbus is a man who is commonly depicted as a hero and great explorer who discovered our modern day America, but many of the so called “facts” are not all completely true as people would like to believe. Columbus was undoubtedly a courageous explorer who brought many new ideas, cultures, and resources to be exchanged between the New World and Europe. While this is true, it is not uncommon for people to forget the harmful effects brought along with the voyages made by Columbus and the darker details of his times in America. Columbus started from humble middle class family. Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa as the oldest of his four siblings.
However, Columbus neither sailed to America nor discovered anything. In fact, Columbus actually found Hispaniola, now called Haiti, where the Taino Natives lived. In the first day Columbus was in the “New World” he enslaved six Natives to help him kill other Natives. His returning to Spain was exciting and he was considered a true hero. He brought back gold, spices, pineapple, and Native slaves.
And that is why I am grateful to have learned many details that shine the light on the way that Christopher Columbus actually was like, a villain. I have my reasons for considering Columbus a villain. For example Because of him there is much less diversity in animals. And if that wasn’t bad enough he is also the reason why there are very few native americans left.
Some say Christopher Columbus was a hero because he was the explorer that discovered America. In reality, Christopher Columbus had an incredibly negative impact on the world because he enslaved the Native Americans, didn’t help the kind Natives when they got infected by diseases that the Spaniards had brought to America, and killed off most of the Native American population. The tactics he chose to use were violent and destructive by the standards back then and now. First, Columbus treated the Native Americans like uncivilized people by enslaving them and forcing them to work for him although they greeted him and his crew peacefully. ” They could make fine servants,”(document 2) he wrote in his journal,”I took them by force.
