Hope in Hell?

Hope in times of darkness and loss can be found only by one's true love. In Dante’s Inferno, Dante only finds true hope through Beatrice- his true love. Beatrice gives Dante hope throughout his journey through hell. When Dante starts to doubt his capability of completing this near impossible journey, Virgil tells him truly why he is sent to be his messenger. Beatrice, Dante’s love, sent Virgil to protect him on his journey through hell. Beatrice said “love moved me [and] compelleth me to speak” ( Alighieri 11). She explains to Virgil that Dante’s journey is heaven sent and that she “ha[s] heard of him in heaven” (Alighieri 11). Beatrice says that Dante’s journey is from God and providential.
