I am interested in becoming a TK assistant teacher at Providence Day School. I believe my pedagogical style reflects the Providence Day commitment to students, allowing students to be intellectual risk-takers within a community of supportive learners and educators. My life experiences and my enthusiasm will allow me to teach with compassion and understanding to help students achieve academic success while nurturing their social and emotional skills. I will be graduating from Queens University of Charlotte with a degree in Elementary Education on May 6, 2017. I am currently completing my student teaching in first-grade at Sharon Elementary School.
I observed at Lake shore learning Academy. It is located on the south side of Chicago. I observe in the toddler classroom the teacher name is Kayla Brown. She has been working as an Early Childhood teacher for about six years. She has her associate degree in early Childhood education.
When thinking of the position as a teacher, there are many descriptions that come to mind. A teacher encompasses the skills of creating a positive, nurturing environment that promotes learning for every student. In order to promote learning, a teacher must be competent in the area of Domain 1, of Charlotte Danielson’s Framework, Planning and Preparation. When planning, all lessons should be thoroughly thought out to meet the needs of every student at their instructional level, and goals should be set for each student based on instructional level for each lesson. Additionally, a proficient teacher acknowledges every students special interests and ability levels within each area of the classroom.
I learn that it is most important to focus on children when in the classroom. I relax in my work by clean up in this class. Always be available to support children and maintain an overview of what is happening throughout the program. I’m aware that I can’t leave children unsupervised and can be somewhere that have one of the teacher staff can supervise me and the group. I show initiative to assist the teacher and children during activities or transitions.

In the nine years since I have known Shawna, I have never seen her walk away from a challenge, especially when it involves a child. She not only set high goals for herself, but she instills this drive in her students. She applauds them when they reach a goal, but can also provide the support when they fail. It is my responsibility to be organized, willing to work well with others, takes initiative, and having a positive attitude. During my time in the field, I had a pleasure of working with 3rd graders. I learned to be a long life learner. Everyday, I was challenged my students to learn something new. It was important to me to make a difference.
