Have you ever experienced cruelty? Have you ever felt stuck in a jail cell with no control over your life? Perhaps you've been left alone with no one to talk to or tried to help someone, only to receive unkind actions and no gratitude in return. Unfortunately, these experiences are all too familiar to the creature, and I've come to see them as examples of cruelty. It's disheartening to realize that the reasons for these actions are based on his appearance. In today's society, cruelty has become so widespread that many people simply accept it or even use it against others. In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelly, Shelly explores the theme of cruelty in various forms. Through the characters of Victor Frankenstein and his creature, Shelley also highlights the devastating consequences of cruelty and the destructive power it holds, thus leading to the murder of Elizabeth. …show more content…

From the moment of his creation, the creature is met with disgust and horror from Victor Frankenstein, his creator. "Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room." Victor abandons him, leaving him to fend for himself in a world that is hostile toward him. This physical cruelty continues when the creature is attacked and beaten by humans who are frightened of him. "The whole village was roused; some fled, some attacked me..." The creature's experiences of physical cruelty ultimately led to his violent actions towards Elizabeth. "...a shrill and dreadful
