Cultural Identity One aspect of social identity is aesthetics. I find that the aesthetics in my culture differ from what my own aesthetics are in some ways, which come from my personal identity. For example, the aesthetic of what society deems as a “good” photo is different than what I define as a “good” photo. Society says that “beautiful” photography must be bright, symmetrical, colorful, and have young or attractive subjects. The photos I find beautiful are the ones of simple and everyday items that are shown from a different view-point. My favorite image I have taken is of a small water fountain at a community park, while others took photos of rose bushes. My culture’s focus in an aesthetically pleasing image is a centered subject, while I focus on the unappreciated details. I see this admiration as part of my person identity, set apart from my cultural identity.
Religion is one of the most important factors that contributes to my cultural, social, and personal identities. In my culture, the dominant religion is Christianity. My country was formed upon the name of the Christian God. My currency reads, “In God We Trust” and my …show more content…

Because I am a college student now, I am constantly asked, “What are you going to school for? What is your major? What do you want to be when you’re ‘grown up’?” Usually if one’s career makes a nice income of money, or takes many years of schooling to become licensed, the person with the career is respected and admired. Occupation reflects income, which reflects materialistic things such as house size, vehicle type, and vacation destinations.
