Hunger Games: Rhetorical Appeal Addition Rhetoric can make or break a movie's revenue based on the effectiveness of the trailer released to the audience. Movie trailers are the main way for those releasing a new movie to be able to catch the audience's attention. Liongates released the movie The Hunger Games in November of 2012. This movie had actors such as Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, who were depicted in the movie's trailer. This trailer shows the intensity and passion that the characters portray in the insane scenario they are thrown into. An Insider’s Guide to Academic Writing defines pathos as, “the anticipated emotional response of the audience”(Miller-Cochran et al. 38). Relationships between the sisters is something that can be related to and understood even if the viewer doesn't have a sibling. The love and responsibility to family is something that many people understand. The trailer is able to portray the main character's love for her sister. She screams “I volunteer” (Ross) while being held back by guards in an intense scene. Knowing that she is going into an arena where the outcome is more than likely death in combination of the intense music and show of many weapons makes the audience scared for the main character, Katniss. This makes you worried about Katniss herself as well as her family which is exactly what Katniss is feeling. By showing an intense scene such as this, the viewer is locked in on wanting Katnisss to win, making an emotional connection between the audience and the
