“I fight for my health every day in a way most people don’t understand. I’m not lazy. I’m a warrior.” This quote was signed unknown. Much like mental health issues or illnesses, which anybody could have, anybody could have written this quote. Any person regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, height or weight could have depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, or have insomnia or eating disorders due to those illnesses. I have a dream that people would take mental health more seriously and educate themselves in this subject to better help others. For example, Anxiety is a very serious mental illness that is often belittled when in reality, it’s a very dangerous illness that involves panic attacks and extreme paranoia. Extreme Anxiety disorders come with symptoms such as insomnia, difficulty concentrating, extreme irritability, and attacks of extreme fear and/or discomfort that involve increased heart rates, extreme sweating, and feelings of suffocating. An Anxiety disorder known as General Anxiety Disorder affects 6.8 million people in America, but only 43.2% of those people are getting treatment. Part of that is true - you can’t always tell that someone has depression or anxiety just by looking at them. Unless the person has visible scars from self harm or numerous other unexplainable physical symptoms, you usually have to sit down with them and talk with them to see if they have mental symptoms. The key word in that sentence is usually; for example, if you are depressed, you may develop an eating disorder, which is obvious to see.
