Fate is defined as something that simply just happens or “Falls upon your lap without any help or actions”. It’s a gesture that is not thought about because when it come it just come without your inner thought or “permission”. While freewill is the opposite, it’s defined as something you as a person caused upon yourself, the actions you did was the reason you are in the situation and you can’t blame anyone but yourself, it’s thought of as the inner consciousness of a person or the permission to give one’s self. Fate vs. Freewill is what causes this novel to be so powerful because as Oprah stated “ When you hear this story, it’s going to turn the way you think and free will and fate upside down.”

Freewill was the object in this story because both Wes’s wasn’t that different, each had loving and caring family and friends, and the opportunities to get a good education if they tried too. Wes- the author- used his freewill by not retaliating against the boys that throw the pizza and call him nigger, “But I had to let this one go. I had to look at the bigger picture. My assailant was unknown, unnamed, and in a car. This was not a fair fight, and the best-case scenario was a nowhere near a probable as the worst –case scenario” (121). Wes understood that this was not fate that caused him not to reaction but the act of freewill. He didn’t feel that it was time and place for the problem to be solved in the way of action but just moving on was the better path. However the other Wes felt differently in that occur with him. Freewill was defiantly use in this situation, Wes got into a fight with this boy over a girl and so Wes decide to go get a gun to retaliated against the boy because of his pride,” Wes could only see red, He was blind with rage. He chose to do what he did and didn’t care if was correct way to solve things but instead that correct way he solve his problems.
