Huck's hero Professor Keita’s statement is correct, Jim is the hero and moral center of the story of the story. “A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles” (Christopher Reeve). Jim is a hero because he finds the strength to get himself to freedom and along the way helps shape Huck Finn’s standards and morals. Jim has shown his heroism with his sense of friendship and appreciation, knowledge, and his kindness. These characteristics are shown multiple times in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Jim’s sense of friendship and appreciation has shown his heroism. Huck and Jim are together and Jim thinks that they are friends. Jim says "No! W'y, what has you lived on? But you got a gun. Oh, yes, you got a gun. Dat's good. Now you kill sumfn en I'll make up de fire." (49). In this quote Jim and Huck are working to overcome obstacles so they can survive. In the beginning of the book tom plays a trick on Jim and puts his hat above Jim on the tree branch, where Jim was sleeping right under. Jim wakes up thinking it was witches who had done this. In this example Huck says “Afterwards Jim said the witches bewitched him and put him in a trance, and rode him all over the State, and then set him under the trees again, and hung his hat on a limb to show who done it” (16). This shows Jim’s bravery and knowledge of witches. Even though Jim was never educated, he tells the story of Solomon. He talked about how Solomon had lots of children, so solomon did not see the real value of the children. This shows that Jim sees the deeper meaning of things by explaining what Solomon had
