Someone once said “A lot of the things we have today that are manmade came from people who dared to think outside of the box.” In society individualism is an important factor for today’s life. People who are individual seem to have a better understanding of the world and make better choices in life. They are on their own and do not count on many people to know what is better for them; they make their own choices. Individualism is when someone stands out and is independent, they do not depend on anyone around them but themselves. It is also when someone is unique in their own way. Their way of thinking is logical and reasonable. This ties in with Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. When Montag meets Clarisse when he is walking home from work, Clarisse makes him think and realize what is happening around him. Montag thinks to himself and describes his other self a “subconscious idiot that ran babbling at times” (Bradbury 14). He believes he’s an idiot because his subconscious was “independent of will” (Bradbury 15) and was actually considering having the thoughts that Clarisse was talking to him about. He was having thoughts that he never had before his mind is expanding and thinking more to itself. She then realized that things were just getting worse and she become less and less dependent of the people around her. She becomes her own individual self and starts making her own decisions about what she’s going to do with her life. She starts going against her government for her own opinion. Not everyone can go against the government and do what they think is right.
