That wonderful feeling when you see the one for the first time, you know, the butterflies and feeling like the whole world stops, that's love. In “Romeo & Juliet”, William Shakespeare shows many different ways that love is possible at first sight in the play. Love, at first sight, is possible when you first see them and knowing that they are the right one for you.
When Romeo first met Juliet it was love at first sight for him as he wanted to kiss Juliet, but she gave him her hand to kiss instead. For example, Romeo said to Juliet “If I profane with my unworthiest hand this holy shrine, the gentle fine is this: my lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss” (Shakespeare 1.5.98-101). This is important because she really wanted to express her love but wanted to reserve herself to him Juliet cried out ” O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name. Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet” (Shakespeare 2.2.35-38). In this quote, it explains how true love is so powerful when she swore her love she’ll no longer be a capulet and become a Montague. It shows that love is possible at first sight and they would take that risk against their families and change their names.Romeo with courage said, “With love’s light wings did I o’erperch these walls; for stony limits cannot hold love out, and what love can do, that dares love attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no stop to me”(Shakespeare 2.2.70-73). Romeo said, “Alas that love, whose view is muffled still, should without eyes see pathways to his will! where shall we dine? O me! What fray was here? Yet tell me not, for I have heard it all. Here’s much to do with hate, but more with love. Why then, o brawling love! O loving hate!”(Shakespeare 1.1.169-174). This supports that love, at first sight, is inconsistent and not real. For example, Romeo loved Rosaline and feel in love with Juliet on the same day which makes love at first sight not possible. As Romeo stared into Juliet's eyes he stated, ”By love, that first did prompt me to inquire. He lent me counsel, and I lent him eyes. I am no pilot; yet, wert thou as far as that vast shore wash’d with the farthest sea, I would adventure for such merchandise” (Shakespeare 2.2.84-88). This explains that love showed him the way to find Juliet and the same thing that made him look for Juliet in the first place. With this in mind, Romeo’s love was so strong and powerful that love showed him the pathway to Juliet’s heart. Juliet cried out, “Three words, dear Romeo, and good night indeed. If that thy bent of love be honorable” (Shakespeare 2.2.148.149). Again, this quote explains how deep their love is at first sight because they were going to end the night with three words that meant “I love you”. As a result, of the love they had for each other they were going to send a message to
