Do you think that people have a choice in their decisions that they make, or do you think that people should follow society’s rules? Well, the correct answer is that kids or teenagers should follow their own hearts and not listen to what society says that they should do. In Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet are both submissive to their parents; until they meet each other for the first time at Juliet’s party. Throughout the play of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare’ shows the conflict between following society’s rules and following your own hearts. We see many occasions of this happening in the play, especially with when Romeo disobeys the cities rules and the Capulets and the Montagues rules. Romeo was whining and complaining about how Rosalina didn’t love him back like he loved her. With the help of his friends, they go to the Capulet party, so that Romeo can try to smooth things over with Rosalina, but instead, he finds Juliet and wants to talk to her. “It is my lady. O, it is my love!/ O speak again, bright angel, for thou art/ as glorious to this night... (2.2.1-35) Romeo got over Rosalin very quickly and had a change in heart for someone new. Romeo’s emotions tend to get the best of him, so he can never truly love someone for the person that they are. He looks at someone and immediately falls in love with them, not even knowing who they are. Juliet want to follow her heart, but she is being forced to marry Paris. Next, Back then in Verona, all the women had no rights to do almost anything that they wanted to do.
