When growing up, people perceive others as being more mature because they’re older. Maturity is perceived on many different levels. However, how can maturity be defined? Well, the word mature possesses the definition of being fully developed. Juliet confesses her love to Romeo after not even knowing him for a full day by saying, “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name, Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I’ll no longer be a Capulet” (2.2.36-39). In this scene, Juliet expresses her love for Romeo with that famous line. She solemnly explains that she will give up her family name to be with Romeo. Juliet quickly confesses her feelings for Romeo, which later lead to their marriage the day after. Juliet did not mature because she was confessing her love for a man she had just met. Juliet might never have done some very immature things with Romeo, such as getting married, without having this evidence to show how immature Juliet was. Romeo and Juliet might have grown up and become more mature if they had more time together getting to know each other, rather than rushing their love. During Act 2, scene 6, Friar Lawrence says, “Come, come with me, and we will make short work, For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone Till Holy Church incorporate two in one” (2.6.35-38). The reader witnesses Romeo and Juliet's wedding at the Holy Church. They are married by Friar Lawrance, who thinks their marriage will stop the family quarrel. However, Friar Lawrance wants to make the marriage fast because Romeo and Juliet want to get married very quickly.
