Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, displays numerous deaths throughout the play. Although there are many deaths, the deaths of Romeo and Juliet are the most tragic. There are multiple people who are to blame. However, Mercutio is the most responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. He got Romeo to go to the dance, which is where he met Juliet. He also fought back to Tybalt which provoked Romeo and led him to being exiled. On top of that, he put a curse on both the Capulets and Montagues.
To begin, Mercutio is at fault because he got Romeo to go to the dance, stating, “Nay, gentle Romeo, we must have you dance” (Act I Scene III). Romeo feared going to this dance due to the fact that he had a dream the he was going to die from going there.
