Why Romeo is responsible for the Deaths Of Romeo and Juliet The tragedy Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, is a tragic love story where the children of two adversary households fall in love, and eventually die because of their tragic fate. Many different characters in the play, from both the Capulets and Montagues, could have been responsible for the death of the two star crossed lovers. From Friar Lawrence, whose bad advice and planning directly led to their death, to tybalt, whose attempt to challenge Romeo led to the whole banishment dilemma. But the person most responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet is Romeo himself. Romeo also has extremely poor judgement, and makes up his mind way too quickly. He makes his decisions through emotion, rather than judgement. For example, Romeo says “And if a man need poison now”, (5.1.51) right after he hears the news of Juliet’s “death”. He is referring to here that he needs some poison to kill himself. He made this decision right after he heard the news, which shows how that decision was caused purely by emotion, and he gave no thought into it. He eventually did kill himself near Juliet, which shows he didn’t just think of that because he panicked, but because he made that decision through emotion. Romeo also makes up his mind much too quickly, like when Romeo says,”Did my heart love till now?”,(1.5.50) when he first saw Juliet.
