Who is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet? Be sure to use the text to prove your point. Plays, shows, and movies, all made up of different emotions and story lines. Romeo and Juliet is a Romantic Tragedy, and a very famous one at that. It is full of hardships that affect the lives of every character, and even lead to death. Who’s to blame for Romeo and Juliet’s death is a topic that is often discussed in many high school English classes. In my English class we have also talked about this subject and I have made a list of people to blame. The first person or people would be the Lords of the House. Friar Laurence in one of those leaders. He was a leader for Romeo and Juliet, but I speculate that he is also to blame for their deaths. However I do not believe that this was his intention, when he first thought of this plan, but Shakespeare made it so that their deaths was the only way to end the feud. Friar Laurence’s plan was to marry Romeo and Juliet, and by uniting them, it would also reunite the families. (II, iii, 91-2) His plan failed, when Romeo kills Tybalt and is then banished. The Friar is then left to deal with two whining children. Both of them lose hope, and so he changes his plan, but this time it is much more dangerous. To sum it up, the plan was to basically put Juliet in a two day coma, and after those two days were up, Romeo would run away with Juliet. This plan failed and Romeo found Juliet in the tomb unconscious. He then killed himself, because he was unaware of the Friar's plan. Romeo’s death is Friar Laurence's fault. After Romeo killed himself, Juliet wakes up to find the Friar alive and her beloved dead. While the Friar tried leaving, Juliet kills herself. Her death was also his
