to me Lizette Rodriguez Mr. Casey English 11/30/16 Rough draft The book If I Stay by Gayle Forman is about a girl who is 17 years old, Mia, who suffers a fatal car accident in which her parents and brother died and is now in critical condition. She has an out of body experience, & sees everything that 's going on around her so she needs to choose the battle between fate and self-will. If I Stay has a lot of common with Romeo And Juliet which includes destiny. Romeo and Juliet’s destiny is for them to be together even if it means to die next to each other, which obviously fate is the reason for their death because everything happens for a reason. For example, “from forth the fatal loins of these to foes/A pair of star-crossed lovers take their life” Two people who are star-crossed lives, their relationship is doomed to fail. Also, it is saying that the stars or fate takes over their destinies, pretty much controlling how their life will end up like. In addition, Romeo dreams that Juliet finds him dead, yet another of example of how fate has a role in their lives which is something they can 't control. Eventually, Romeo learns that Juliet is dead but does not know about the potion she took due to Friar 's letter not getting delivered in time. He decides to commit suicide next to her alive-dead body. Juliet wakes up and asks Friar where Romeo is and he replies that some higher power has taken over their original plans. Because of fate, Friar does not make it to Juliet 's tomb on time. Romeo kills himself before the friar can tell him that Juliet is not really dead. This is not the friar 's fault, it is fate that he did not get there on time. Romeo and Juliet’s destiny is for both to be together even if it means to die next to each other.
