The story of Romeo and Juliet is filled with romance, humor, but most of all tragedy. Throughout the entire story six people end up dying. The majority of blame for the six deaths in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare rests on Romeo. Romeo is most responsible for the deaths because he is obsessed with love; an example is when he killed Paris because he stood in the way of Juliet. Another reason Romeo is the most responsible for their deaths is because he doesn’t always think his actions through such as when he went on a rampage towards Tybalt for killing Mercurio, which is also partially Romeo’s fault. Secondly, he is obsessed with love and romance, enough to kill other people and himself in the end. “Come, biter poison, come, unsavory guide! You desperate pilot, let’s crash this sea-weary ship into rocks! Here’s to my love!” (V.III.116-120) This quote is right after killing Paris. Firstly, Romeo stabbed two people in cold blood because he didn’t think out his actions. he was so enraged by the deaths of Mercutio and Juliet it led him to kill Tybalt and Paris. “He’s alive and victorious, and Mercutio’s dead? Enough with mercy and consideration. It’s time for rage to guide my actions. Now, Tybalt, you can call me ‘villain’ the way you did before. Mercurio’s soul is floating right above our heads. He’s waiting for you to keep him company on the way up to heaven. Either you, or I, or both of us have to go with him.” (III.I.118-125) This quote relates to my reasoning because he was so enraged by the death of Mercutio that he just went after Tybalt without thinking of the consequences of his actions.
