The Great Gatsby is a book about a man named Nick and he lives next to his neighbor Gatsby. This novel in based in the 1990 centie and in the city of New York city on long Island, in two 2 areas known as, “West Egg”, and “East Egg”. Nick goes on to talk about Gatsby and gets to know him and things happen in the book where Gatsby in a bad situation. The book goes on to tell about Gatsby and Daisy a woman he is in love with.
One of the first things we hear from nick in the book is that he will not judge people, that that is how he was taught. On the first page of the book he states “ … I’m inclined to reserve all judgements…” This clearly states that he with holds his judgement for others so he can see people in a different light, but as the story further progresses, it is clearly shown that he does not hold his judgement, he quite clearly lets it show in multiple chapters. It seems to most he does with hold most of his judgement, but is also clearly shown that he does not in most cases.
Before I introduce some main themes, I’ll briefly describe how the story and characters suggest the major Great Gatsby themes. Remember that the story is set in the 1920s, a period when America’s economy was booming, and takes place in New York: specifically the wealthy Long Island towns of West Egg and East Egg, as well as Manhattan and Queens. Who dreams of a more exciting life outside of the midwest. He decides to head east. He arrives in East egg the land of the newly found rich.
In the story The Great Gatsby the narrator nick is not reliable because the way that he treats people and talks about them behind their back this shows that he is capable of lying to the readers. In other words how he talks about how he dosent judge people but behind those people’s back he talks bad about them. Also it shows he is capable to lie to people and make them believe what he says and to the reader it shows us that he's not a person to trust . This shows that the narrator Nick is not reliable because this shows he could lie to us the readers and not always say the truth for example, in the story he states ‘’reserving Judgments is a matter of infinite hope’’(F. Scott 2). This shows us that he's not trustworthy.
The Great Gatsby is an American novel written by Scott Fitzgerald. On the surface, the book revolves around the concept of romance, the love between two individuals. However, the novel incorporates less of a romantic scope and rather focuses on the theme of the American Dream in the 1920s. Fitzgerald depicts the 1920’s as an era of decline in moral values. The strong desire for luxurious pleasure and money ultimately corrupts the American dream which was originally about individualism.

If we take a non-fiction book that was written in 1922, we might ask ourselves whether the book is relevant in this day and age. One such book was written by the author F. Scott Fitzgerald and it goes by; “The Great Gatsby”. The contents of the novel actually hold pretty valuable and relatable materials regarding materialism in today’s society. It also touches on the idea that people are not what they seem to be even if they say they are. This in and of itself is highly relevant because human behavior stays fairly comprehensible throughout history.

At the beginning of the great gatsby, Nick's father gives him some advice, “Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you have had.” Nick has learned to live by this advice ever since. This advice is both a blessing and a curse. Since he doesn't pass judgement on people it makes him easy to talk to, but this changes due to certain instances where he realizes the character’s lack of morals and recklessness.
