Up till this point everyone in the courtroom learned that Tom Robinson’s left arm is crimped and is way too weak to even scratch the girl, let alone hold her down and attack her. As Mayella kept stating that somehow Tom Robinson was the one that hurt her he finally asked, “ How?”(Lee 249). The question left the whole room in suspense to wait to see if Mayella’s response would be valid. It truly seems that Atticus has this case in the bag.
In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee conveys that prejudice divides communities and that persecution of innocent people is evil; furthermore; these two minor themes reinforce the major thematic idea that a simple assumption can divide people. When Tom Robinson is put on trial for supposedly raped Mayella Ewell, the racism in Maycomb surfaces and creates conflict. In the novel, a stranger says, “You know what we want,” ‘another man said.’ “Get aside from the door, Mr. Finch.”(172). Some drunken men want to harm Tom Robinson for the wrong that he did.

Prejudice is an assumption about someone based solely on what they believe is true or on what they were told or taught. Scout experiences prejudice because of her age, Boo because he is seldom seen and colored people because of the color of their skin.
One of the key themes of the novel is the idea of prejudice. Throughout the book, we see how people are judged based on their race or social status, rather than on their character. This is particularly evident in the case of Tom Robinson, who is falsely accused of raping a white woman. Despite the overwhelming evidence in his favor, he is still found guilty because of the color of his skin. This is a powerful reminder of the ways that prejudice can affect people's lives.

There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time (Lee 16).
Prejudice has affected a lot of people in american society. In To Kill a Mockingbird there is a lot of prejudice in Maycomb Alabama. The story is written about a family called the Finches. The members of the family are Jem, Scout, Calpurnia, and Atticus.
It is the 1930’s in a small town in Alabama, where racism is still very prevalent. Early in life, Jem and Scout learn from their father that, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” (39) Eventually, this lesson helps them see past the color of a person’s skin to see what kind of a person they really are, black or white. In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee combines prejudice and racism to convey a powerful message.

In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee she shows that in her time there was a lot of prejudice. Some characters were able to see through this and show honesty, kindness, and innocence. Though not all people were like this and some were considered cruel and reckless, but no one stood up to them. Atticus Finch and Scout were able to see through this and know who was innocent. Tom Robinson was innocent and kind, but people judged him on what he appeared to be instead of what he really was.

Prejudice is seen throughout the novel to be wrong as certain characters in the novel are shown to be against their group's stereotypes, whether it is blacks such as Tom Robinson or n white folks such as Atticus Finch or Dolphus Raymond.
Prejudice is not part of human nature, because there are many human beings that do not have prejudice. For example, the Finch family. Scout and Jem originally were prejudiced against the Radleys. They would make fun of them and play games mocking
