If you look throughout our American History racism is an incredibly large problem that has stood the test of time. To begin with, racism was a very immense ordeal. Most of the people at the time who were facing racism and discrimination, were the African-Americans whom were of dark skin color. Contrary to popular belief, racism is still well alive in the United States, even in the 21st century. Many attempts have been made to terminate the unwanted social injustice, but its presence is still plainly evident today. Still, there have been many citizens who have become blind to racism. Despite slavery being abolished, and segregation outlawed, racism still exists. A minority in the United States would easily be able to explain in detail the evident facts of racism today, while most white persons will tell you that the country has reached racial equality.
I am a 8th grade student at Viking Middle School who has always been passionate about race issues and bullying of any sorts. I have seen it first hand it I know that people are still insensitive to the topic about racism. I know racism is not a disease that we can just cure and I also know that it is something that has been taught for years.

Racism is an ever growing issue in the world, and something we can’t hide behind. According to dictionary.com the defintion of racism is: “the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.” Race was created socially by how people perceive ideas and faces people are not used to yet. It is the “hatred” of one person to another individual, solely based on that person's belief that the person is inferior because of their language, birthplace and skin colour. Racism is an issue that has lasted throughout history, providing justification for a group’s dominance over another.
