Term Limits for Congress Currently there are no term limits for the members of the United States Congress. An example of this is John Dingell. Having served just over sixty years, Dingell is the longest serving member of congress in United States history (“Democratic Rep. Dingell, Longest-Serving Congressman, to Retire”). This has caused an issue because some of the members of congress have become corrupt. According to an article by Robert Longley, if there were term limits for congress there would be less experience and also you would be limiting the members that have not became corrupt. This would get rid of the old corrupt law-making congressmen and bring in new members and make our country better with the laws they make. For example, the new members would think differently and make the United States better because “if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got” (“Why Members of the US Congress Do Not Face Term Limits”). This means that if we don’t apply term limits for the members of the United States Congress, we won’t get anywhere as a country because we will just keep making the same kinds of laws and doing everything the exact same way as we always have. This basically means that the members of Congress should not only go to work everyday thinking about completing the task at hand for their job that day, but also they should be thinking that the reason they are doing this job is to benefit the people of the United States.
