Tom Robinson is an example of a mockingbird because he is an innocent citizen, who is being accused of something he did not do, and was not responsible for. To Kill A Mockingbird takes place in the 1930s, during the great depression. That explains why discrimination and racism had to do with Tom’s accusation.

The first piece of evidence that proves that Tom Robinson is the Mockingbird is his innocence. Tom Robinson is an innocent and smart person. In the novel, Tom Robinson is being accused of rape and abuse. It is obvious and it is proved later on in the novel that Tom Robinson could not have been responsible for Mayella Ewell’s case of rape, since he only has one working arm. Another piece of evidence is when Mr. Ewell states, “‘It was her right eye, Mr.Finch . I remember now, she was bunged up on that side of her face...’” (P. 225). Mr. Ewell was left handed, and in this passage Mr.Ewell affirms that Mayella was beaten on the right side of the face.Since Mr.Ewell is left handed, he was asked to write his name during the trial, to prove that he was the one to beat Mayella. …show more content…
