Many stories and even in the real world have this thing about having a very controlling government in most places. Cecelia Ahern uses totalitarianism, in the book flaws society, the author is trying to say that this type of power does not go well overall; The people have very little freedom, fear, and even distrust of the system this happens within the novel, and in the real world.
Totalitarianism is a type of government that not many people agree with. It is one of those governments where it sounds good on paper but then horrible when done in real life. They are always watching. They all must be perfect. Though the government does not dominate the people themselves, instead the things around them. Like the news, school, and workplace. So, when a person is branded as flawed that kind of control is much worse, they cannot go hang with more than one other flawed person, and they cannot leave their houses past 11:00. They have a different meal than everyone else, and they are being checked every week. They do not have any liberty. In the novel is disclosed, “be home by ten thirty, they say eleven, but she’ll be waiting for you” (132). The main character has a bed from the government, and it is not like her whole family does. People in the novel fear the government; if you are flawed, that just worsens. The government is using an extremely powerful force to keep flawed for not seeking out or having more of the two together you might hear someone say, “There’s a whistleblower” (297). These are groups of people who go to the flawed home and let them have a test to make sure that the flawed are following the rule. If a flaw is not following the rule the Whistleblower gets to do such punishment So, if a flaw does break a rule there will be a punishment and that is how the people are afraid of the government being flawed or if they are flawed by not following the rules correctly.
