Throughout learning about Burris Ewell and his family you can describe Burris as uncaring and His family as a disgrace. First off, Burris can be described as uncaring for many reasons. In the book Burris does not care about his appearance. He will show up for school looking like he did not take a shower in weeks. In the books it states, “He was the filthiest human I have ever seen. His neck was was dark gray, the backs of his hands were rusty, and his fingernails were black deep into the quick” (Lee 35). To everyone he was so filthy and did not clean up. Burris does let a teacher tell him what he does. The last reason Burris is uncaring is he is rude to Miss Caroline. He not only does not listen to what she has to say he has to call her something to make his point. In the book it states, “Report and be damned to ye! ain’t no snot-nosed slut of a schoolteacher ever born c’n make me do nothin’! (Lee 37). Burris is very mean to Miss Caroline and ends up making her cry before he leaves the classroom. Burris’s family the Ewell’s could be described as a disgrace. They are different from the normal people. The first reason the Ewell’s can described as a disgrace is the kids only go to school on the first day and does not come back for the rest of the year. In the book it states, “They come first day every year and and then leaves. (Lee 36). They are not like the other kids and get shunned for not going to school from the town. The second reason the Ewell’s could be described as a disgrace is the town saw them as nothing. Maycomb shunned the family and did not care about them. In the book it states, “The Ewells had been the disgrace of Maycomb for three generations” (Lee 40). The town does not like the Ewells and do not want a lot to do with them.
