What did the United States lose in Vietnam? The United States lost many things in Vietnam. Examples of this might be: losing countless American lives, Military resources, billions of dollars, Domestic and foreign Support. America risked many things during Vietnam in order to stop the spread of Communism. Americans risked many valuable things during the “conflict.” During the Vietnam War, America lost Thousands of American lives. 58,220 American soldiers died during the war. 14,844 of the 58,220 were killed in action, another 5,299 died from wounds. On a side note, 303,704 Americans were wounded in Vietnam. In 1967, 500,000 American troops were in Vietnam. By the end of the year, 15,058 were killed, and 109,527 were wounded. Each year the war cost $25 billion for nearly 40,000 men that were drafted each month. The Department of Defence has reported that over the course of the war, the total cost of the war was around $173 billion. Although, with the veteran benefits from the war it adds another $250 billion. The War in Vietnam caused America to lose support from its people. October 21, 1967 1000,000 protesters surround the the Lincoln Memorial to protest their right against people going into war. There were soldiers who came back from fighting and joined the anti-war movement. Americans at home were sick of turning on the news every night, to see the bodies of loved ones and people they knew being taken home in bags. After Vietnam the some of the soldiers were treated as heroes because they fought for our country and fought for what they believe in, but other soldiers were treated like they were psycho, killers, drug addicts. Even though there was some people who didn’t want to fight they still did it for their family and friends. Some people would yell at the soldiers and insult them, because of what the people think. Some soldiers go spat on and kept getting called killers and baby killers, even though they were trying to fight for the country.
