My former boss has recently told a story, involving me but, I am going to tell you my side. I, Bartleby, am not crazy or depressed for the reasons you might think. I have recently accepted a job in a law firm, I am a good worker and I strive in my first few weeks but the view is horrendous so things begin to decline. The people in my office are very strange, they all are nicknames on how they are. To start, Turkey, he was short and fat, not far from sixty. But he has a serious alcohol problem, after lunch he becomes very reckless because he has drunk enough to be drunk and have a belly full of beer; so, therefore, he is only helpful until noon. While Turkey is not useful in the afternoon, Nippers is not helpful in the morning, simply because he is not a morning person. Thirdly, Ginger Nut, he is a student at law, so he is still very young. Ginger Nut basically runs all the errands for the office, most of the time to get snacks for Nippers and Turkey which are ginger snap cookies. And then there is me; I was hired because the three of them cannot handle all the work. The lawyer of the law firm hired me in hopes I would calm everyone down in the office. I personally refuse to go back and check the work others and I have done. There is no point, Herman said to me one day, “We are going to examine them (the copies)… [I respond], “I would prefer not to” (30). This was not done in a rude manner or out of disrespect; I simply rather not do it. This became a continuous problem for Herman and me.
