In The Butter Battle Book by Dr. Seuss, the author is exemplifying the cold war in the concepts introduced in his children’s book. The book follows two opposing sides, the ‘Zooks’ and ‘Yooks’, who had tense relations over clashing ideals. The Zooks believed the correct way to eat bread was with the butter side down, while the Yooks believed that the correct way to eat it was with the butter side up. This is similar to the conflict between the United States and Russia, in that Russia, or the Soviet Union, as it was called then, was a communist union, which the United States did not agree with.
