Identifying and involving oneself with the early childhood field is the first aspect of NAEYC Standard 6. This was met in this assignment through the analyzation of each case study. A deepened understanding of early childhood environments was fostered through this assignment. This assignment also fulfilled another part of Standard 6, knowing about and upholding standards and other professional guidelines. This standard was met in this assignment by each group member recognizing the standards placed in education and how this aids in furthering professional development.
During Roe v. Wade (1973), the Supreme Court held that a pregnant woman has the fundamental right to privacy in the cases of abortion. This case recognized that the constitutional right to privacy extends a woman’s right to make her own personal medical decisions, including the decision to have an abortion without interference from politicians. Furthermore, it affirms the legality of a woman’s right to have an abortion under the 14th amendment to the constitution. The U.S. Supreme Court Case of Roe vs. Wade has made abortion legal in America. The ruling was that babies are not legal “persons”; from that point on, they have had no rights or protection under Constitution.
It was interesting to know that the U.S is try to adopt the most successful systems of education in the world such as Finland. It was interesting to know also that the U.S don’t have a standardized education system for the pre-school programs, so different places different programs. Most of the time this difference creates obstacles in the education system. Fuller and Strath (2001) conducted a quantitative research study that examined local populations of early education organizations based on the 1990 household census data to report features of the early childhood workforce nationwide. Multiple economic and regulatory forces shaped the population of early education organizations that operated within states and local communities. The median center-based teacher was 34 years of age, reported having completed some college, and was married. The median family childcare home provider had a high school diploma. Fifteen percent of all preschool teachers in urban areas were African American and 8% were Latina.

The purpose of my reflection and artifacts is to provide you with information about my learning skills and experience that I have gained during my studies for the Early Childhood Education program. My experience throughout the course was fun especially on my Virtual Child Assignment because it was an interesting journey. I have discovered about the development and behaviour for my child Neel. This course had a good impact both on me and my learning skills because I had the opportunity to apply my knowledge skills ages and safety, the health and safety practise which I believe is important for a child. Secondly the most important part that I found in the virtual assignment was the working step by step process about the Child’s growth hence, I learned the importance of the health and safety practises which are very important for me to work as an Early Childhood Educator.
Observation and Documentation are key elements in the Reggio Emilia Approach. Play is the work of the child, and teachers take on many roles within the classroom in the Reggio Emilia project approach. Teachers serve as observers, facilitators, they also document and plan new curriculum based on observations. The teacher and child are partners in learning. The relationship between the teacher and child last over a three year span; this longevity is great for building social and emotional development.
While reading up on both early childhood education programs I found some major differences on how they each conduct their centers. For instance child-centered education programs tend to have educators that put “children’s ideas, preferences, learning styles, and interests are considered in the planning for and implementation of instructional practices”. That means to me that they put the uniqueness of each child into mind as they are putting together the curriculum to teach them. I also read that “Children are active participants in their own education and development. This means that they should be mentally involved and physically active in learning what they need to know and do”.
Based in the NAEYC standers: Reggio Emilia approach supports a Child Approach in that a child’s image is viewed as having rights and not just needs, child has been viewed as beautiful, competent, powerful, curious, creative as well as full of ambitious desires and potentials, supports children’s individual differences and needs, documentation that Reggio teachers collect about their students, and mix of long- and short term projects which provide students with a deeper understanding of the subject matter. Introduction In early childhood education, it is important for teachers to always consider and understand children and the families’ needs. Early childhood teachers cannot only work with their colleagues to face children and the families’ needs but also need to work with multi-disciplinary to collaborate the ideas with each other and discuss the best outcome for the children and the families in early childhood education setting together. So, the more explanation about the multi-disciplinary team is that teachers with different professionals such as psychologists, child social worker, police, adult social worker, health visitor or court working together to provide different services and support for children and the families’ needs. They are diverse professional groups who work together in order to collaborate, reflect, access and support children’s development, health and learning and also families' needs.

In the Montessori Media centre (2009) they speak of how “Montessori education is driven by an ambitious aim: To aid the child’s development into a complete adult human being, comfortable with himself, with his society and with humanity as a whole. Whereas the traditional approach to education, remains focused on the transmission of prescribed blocks of knowledge, the Montessori approach is focused on giving support to the natural development of the child.” Maria Montessori spoke about how the development of the child between the age of 6 and 12 is a notable time in their life. She highlighted how it is a period of holistic development, which brings out the child’s need for wider horizons, the movement from the concrete to thinking abstractly and the development of the morale. The child is also very interested in socialising with peers.
