In P5 of my work I am going to outline and discuss the strategies and procedures used in health and social care to reduce the risk of abuse. The aim of the independent safeguarding Authority (ISA) was established under the Safeguarding Groups Act 2006 to protect children and vulnerable adult to those who might abuse them. The strategy in order to achieve this is through mentoring people who seek access through their work, paid, unpaid and voluntary. As they have to be registered under the vetting and barring scheme and will be checked against one of two barred list. Reference can be defined as being information that is written by a pervious employer that tells the workplace what type of person the individual is and if their experience is valid and if they have the experience to work with vulnerable adult.

Population health is a field which includes health outcomes, patterns of health determinants and policies and interventions that link these two (Kindig & Stoddart, 2003). More recently, the National Academy of Medicine defined population health as an approach that treats the population as a whole (including the environmental and community contexts) as the patient (NACNEP, 2016). Allied health professionals relate to population health through the understanding of the increased demand to serve the population rather than only the individual. The three most critical areas to better serve the health of the population as allied health professionals include 1) viewing the population’s health as a whole, versus as individuals, 2) to emphasize the need to practice quality improvement and patient safety in all instances when a medical decision is made, and 3) take into consideration all sub-populations when judging the health of an entire population. In the least developed countries on the other hand, the impoverished people there die mostly from communicable diseases and infections such as respiratory infections, HIV/AIDS, and tuberculosis. Here in the United States, where although the quality of health care is debatable, very few people would die from the same illnesses because most people have relatively easy access to hospitals, medicines, and vaccines even if they need it far less than those who can’t afford it. I think that technology leading most people to live more sedentary lives is the most crucial cause in these cardiovascular non-communicable diseases which a majority of the people in western countries
The term social determinants of health, can be defined as a ‘set of conditions in which people are born, grow up, live and work.’ These conditions include housing, education, financial security and the environment along with the healthcare service. Social determinants of health are linked to health inequalities according to the World Health Organisation, health inequalities are ‘the unfair and avoidable differences in health status seen within and between countries.’
Health outcomes among people depend upon the resources that people have to live a quality life. The variations with the money distribution and power derive such circumstances and induce inequalities in health at domestic and global levels where they have become unavoidable at present (Vega & Frenz, 2013). It has been stated that income, housing as well as environment are the major categories undermining all the factors of social determinants as mentioned earlier. Individuals, groups and communities are negatively influenced by these factors in their health status. Governments of all nations have undertaken several measures to tackle the risks arising from these conditions (Chapman, 2010).

Unfortunately the vulnerable populations in Ireland suffer the effects of the social determinates and also the health inequalities and die younger because they put up with a healthcare system which “places lesser value on the lives of those with lesser means” (Wren 2002).
