It’s to no surprise that obesity is an epidemic in America and is continuing to grow at an alarming rate. Statistics say that more than one-third (34.9% or 78.6 million) of U.S. adults are obese and being overweight is harming the nation by worsening the health burden, raising health costs, and undermining productivity (Greenhalgh). Sadly the responsibility for this epidemic is mostly put on Blacks and Latinos, who have the highest percentage of obesity. Latinos more so have sparked this for concern due to their large numbers in the United States and something must be done about this to help bring down these numbers and help the overall population’s health. Introduction Primary care is said to be the “first point of contact” for people when accessing the health care system in Ireland (Department of health and children 2001). The World health organisation(1978) outline that one of the main roles of primary health care is to provide access to care for the most vulnerable but also to identify and rectify the factors which lead to their early mortality. The Alma Ata declaration (1978) was a huge milestone in the development of primary care and they explain how essential it is for all populations’ health. Unfortunately the vulnerable populations in Ireland suffer the effects of the social determinates and also the health inequalities and die younger because they put up with a healthcare system which “places lesser value on the lives of those with lesser means” (Wren 2002).
This paper is about the concepts of wellness and sustainable health care, how I, as an RMT can play a role with that process. The first place to start as an RMT is asking yourself, what is good health and how can I help have a positive effect on it? The World Health Organization says: “A state of optimum physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity.” A healthier population can make more productive and positive contributions to overall societal development. A healthy population would require less support in the form of social benefits and health care, and would be better at supporting and sustain itself over a longer period of time.

I believe that my emotional wellness is my strongest section.
I strongly value my health and believe that health is our greatest form of wealth. When one lives a healthy lifestyle, it means more opportunities to explore the world, build families, achieving anything the heart desires and conquering personal goals. The behavior change philosophy fits my personal philosophy of health education the most because it involves goal setting, behavioral contracts and self-monitoring to help foster the modification of an unhealthy habit. The behavior change philosophy is very important because change is a process, not an event. Self-efficacy and motivation are key factors in successful behavior changes.
