Why do they still care?
A Discussion of why the Odyssey is still Entertaining Today
A story of cunning, heros, romance, action, and loyalty sounds like a pretty good story. The right amount of everything. Just think, this was from thousands of years ago. One of the most famous Epic Poems of all time. The Odyssey still lives today for many reasons. Written by Homer, it still has much importance in today's society.
That dose of action makes up most of the story. From Cyclops’ to giant sea monsters, Homer added the perfect amount of action to keep the poem interesting. Then there comes the war scenes. The war in Troy and the “war” with Odysseus and Penelope’s suitors. Homer wrote, “And Odysseus looked around him, narrow-eyed, for any others who lain hidden while death’s black fury passed. In blood and dust he saw that the crowd had fallen, many and many slain.”

With war and carnage happening all around, Odysseus manages to keep hold of his wife’s image. The whole trip back was for her, just to see her once more. He gave up immortality just to be with her again, left Calypso on her island to return to Penelope. He also has romances with other ladies on the way. But, he still ended up leaving both of them in the end. Loyalty also plays into the romance. While Odysseus is out cheating on Penelope, she stays at home, fighting off suitors with tricks and challenges. She stays loyal to Odysseus when everyone tries to convince her that he is dead, and that she should move on to another
