In college departments are required to have a certain amount of students enrolled in one of the departments courses. If a academic department in the school cannot reach a certain amount of students over a certain time the department will have to close. Arts and humanities classes are on the decline due to the number of job opportunities available. However, arts and humanities courses are important to help develop an understanding for literature and art. Many college students are not a fan of taking arts and humanities courses because the courses do not correspond with their major.
Author Larry Cublin believes that students in high school should know about this topic “ Why everyone shouldn’t go to college” due to the fact that students don’t know how many years they want to go to college, hot they are going to pay for college, and they realize college is not for them. They way that I see it is that everyone may not want to go to college because they already have a mindset on what they want to do. For instance, most students think they know what they want and what to do but they don’t realize that there are alternatives like taking a vocational program that is only two years which is less time to waste in college and you are able to work quicker after those two years, but the downfall is that you won’t get paid much
Other students settle for less challenging classes because they allow them to continue with their other passions. Other students such as myself take both rigorous classes and dedicate themselves to out of school activities
Somewhere along the way Americans began supporting the idea that all students should go to College. Students get the idea by the time they are in middle school that they need College to be successful. There are so many loopholes around college as well as evidence showing that having a degree doesn’t mean person A makes more money than person B. College isn’t for everybody, and people can go get their 3 year degree only to find out that the whole experience wasn’t worth anything to them and now they have all their student debt to deal with. College, unfortunately, is very expensive; However, in America we have many options for students to pay for their education, almost all ways of paying tuition put students in debt. A chart that uses information from The U.S bureau of labor statistics shows that “The bottom quarter of earners with a college degree don’t make more money than the average high school graduate.”
Colleges exist for a number of reasons. One reason is to educating young minds to become critical thinkers. Another reason is to supply the world with highly functioning and productive people. Another important reason colleges exist is to encourage students to become creative members of the community. Countless colleges around the world train students to be more critical in their thinking.
Why People Should Not Go to College People should not go to college because is difficult to find out what career choice as a result of the inexperience and little information, the potential loans are overwhelming, and the huge necessity to start working immediately after school. In fact, many high school students go to college because it is expected of them, but that is not a good reason to go. If the students are facing pressure from their parents, friends, or teachers to attend college, but they do not feel ready. A person who wants to attend college should not take on such a large financial and time commitment just to please other people. College is expensive, and it does not make sense to spend money on a college degree if they are unsure of their path.
Instead they have to take classes that don’t really have anything to do with their major but are only taking them in order to fulfill a general education requirement. Taking those classes that aren’t needed is really just wasted time they could be spending studying their major. Also, if they were to do bad in these classes it brings down their overall GPA, which is important for their major. Onto graduation, some feel at disadvantage because more time could have been spent on their major rather than irrelevant
Education is the single most Important factor in the growth of our country. College is a time when young individuals open their minds to new ideas and possibilities. College offers stronger community connections, better wages and can make a person feel accomplished/independent. College matters because without a throughly educated society, America would plummet to the ground. Jobs would fail because the people applying can’t get accepted without a college degree.
College is necessary because it helps create a more educated workforce for America and gets and more people into STEM and careers they really love. It may be expensive but it pays off. College gives you a chance at a better future. You gain real world experience and get to have fun and explore yourself. It is worth it to create a better, more productive future for yourself.

A bachelor’s degree graduate earns $17,500 more per year than a high school graduate and $15,500 more than a student with any college or a two-year degree. The wage gap between college and high school graduates’ salaries is growing from previous generations. Despite the recent recession, college graduates are more likely to be employed than their less educated peers.
A college education is important to me because it helps secure my future. An education help me secure a well paying job to support a husband, children, family members, and also the community. With a college education, it will help build background knowledge and skills for the future in and out of work. The knowledge acquired in college will help make decision making easier, help with tasks at home, and solve problems. The skills I learn in college will give me more confidence in my future job- which I plan on going into nursing.
