Is a college education really worth it? We are raised to believe that we need a higher education to succeed in life but, do we truly need college to succeed when computers are running almost anything and technology is constantly advancing. Going to college and getting your degree doesn’t guarantee that your going to get a job after graduation. There are people who have never even been in a college and are doing better than someone with their master’s degree. College also is a waste of money because you can’t really focus enough as you should on your major and you end up with a great deal of debt from student loans.
First of all, the leading reason why people go to college isn’t because they want to, they have to. Most high school seniors are pressured by their parents to go to college because it is “the right thing for them.” In Caroline Birds essay “College is a Waste of Time and Money” she says that students only go to college because “mother wanted them to go, or some other reason entirely irrelevant to the course of studies for which college is supposedly organized.” The student might have other ideas about what they want to do in their life but , because they think that their parents know what’s best for them, they most likely end up doing something they don’t want to do, causing them to be unhappy and hateful.

Instead they have to take classes that don’t really have anything to do with their major but are only taking them in order to fulfill a general education requirement. Taking those classes that aren’t needed is really just wasted time they could be spending studying their major. Also, if they were to do bad in these classes it brings down their overall GPA, which is important for their major. Onto graduation, some feel at disadvantage because more time could have been spent on their major rather than irrelevant
