Myself, knowing what marching band is and how it works from personal experience, marching band should be considered a sport.
Sports should be hard and require skill and very strategic. Although some say it is entertaining, is not very strategic. You ride around in circles and try to go as fast as you can. If we are considering NASCAR a sport, then we should do the same for mini golf, go kart races, and board games sports. When Matthew Walther published his article “Sorry Nerds: Video Games Are Not a Sport” he tries to explain in a variety of different ways how video games aren’t a true sport; yet proceeds to use the reference that watching CNN with your grandpa could be a sport biased on his definition of a sport. With the way the author is trying to describe how he doesn’t think video games are a sport to his audience he leaves out some key things. Physical exertion is a main element to a sport being a sport. According to one article on the BFA Mercury, a sport is "An activity involving physical exertion..." (Hayden). Football players have to be strong and football is recognized as an official sport.
The meaning of a game is "a sports action obliging aptitude or physical ability and frequently of a focused nature, as hustling, baseball, tennis, golf, knocking down some pins, wrestling, boxing, chasing, angling, and so on." (dictionary.com). Here, I might want to call attention to that such exercises as angling and hustling oblige practically zero physical capacity whatsoever. The most critical aptitude a member in each of these games is mental ability. There is a valid argument out there that golf is not a sport. As a person that has played golf before, I believe it is a sport. There are reasons to support my claim, such as golf meets the definition of a sport. Another reason is golf requires physical exertion.
A sport is any kind of activity in which an individual trains their body for either entertainment, or for competition. I definitely think that Ballet can be classified as a sport. Ballet involves viroguous training to create a dance routine that will eventually tell a story, or captivate audiences. The several hours that a ballerina dedicates to Ballet, is evident in the way a dancer walks, in addition to the lean muscles that occur due to these hours of training. This result is much like how a football or baseball player dedicates hours to the gym in order to gain both strength and speed.
