If you asked me two years ago when I was finishing Ohio State’s Bachelor of Art Education program if I would be going back to graduate school I would have said that I hadn’t even thought about it. My undergraduate degree was all I really needed to fulfill my lifelong dream of being an art teacher, so why go back to school? Well, to my dismay, here I am at the tail end of my second year of teaching doing just that. While it is true that my acquired degree has allowed me to pursue my dream, I find myself even more passionate and in love with this field than ever before and I want to learn more.
The training of Alaina was almost purely self-taught. It started early in her childhood when she started to teach herself how to draw horses at the age of three. All her work paid off when in fifth grade, she achieved what she wanted and dreamed of when she finally drew a horse like the sketches of DaVinci. Recognizing what she could achieve, she once again hungered for something else to master, so she started to learn how to draw people, the hardest image to master.

By successfully gaining a bachelors degree in sculpture I will be able to further my studies to become an art therapist, where I can help people like myself, or anyone who has an ailment find peace and focus through the expression of how they feel. Furthermore, I will be able to show those who feel stuck or handicapped a way to be free of negative self image but putting it on paper and turning something dark into a beacon of beauty and self appreciation. Additionally, I could help spread awareness for both mental and physical ailments through my work, and the work of those I teach, to further the message that while some may only percieve the illness of an individual there is always more to someone than just that; they are a mother, a daughter,
When interviewing Mrs. Gray, I learned that teaching can have its pros and its cons, but if you enjoy what you love to do, you’ll see many of the pros it has to offer instead. I learned that personal experience can help you choose what you’d love to teach. The way Mrs. Gray figured she’d love to teach by being an instructor is interesting because I enjoy drawing and that passion has encouraged me to want to teach drawing. What was good about the interview was that I got to know a little more about Mrs. Gray. The whole interview went great but what made me nervous about wanting to become a teacher was when she said “You’ll never know what to expect when teaching, all students behave differently and it can become challenging to teach.”
I would define the liberal arts as an education which allows individuals to expressively learn freely by thinking critically, considering peers' morals and openly communicating. I believe a liberal arts education can help me develop as a whole person by providing me with the tools to think critically, communicate effectively, and understand the world around me in a more nuanced and empathetic way. A liberal arts education encourages you to think critically and approach problems from multiple perspectives. This skill is not only valuable in your academic pursuits but also in your personal and professional life.
Teaching is a big part of me as I have taught many of my friends and other students. I have used my talent as an artist to give life to the words and diagram in the textbook. I have used my art to help people visualize abstract thinking and understand different concepts, especially when it comes to chemistry, biology, and physics. Through the art, I have tried to make a learning more of a fun and challenging by using the ideas of everyday objects. Because art has a more flexibility when it comes to how it is presented, I have tried to include my art and animation in different presentations.
Going forward a liberal arts education will be key for me to attain my goals. Specifically a Hollins liberal arts education. I am interested in pursuing pre-law, creative writing, art, and equine studies. At a typical technical based studies program I would be unable to study and learn what I 'm passionate about. It has been said that if you choose a job you love you will never have to work another day, and I fully intend to live my life with zeal doing what I love and am truly passionate about, and a liberal arts education will help me achieve that.

My educational goal is to earn a degree in Biology and Spanish from the University of California, Riverside, in hopes of getting a job inside the laboratory department at Kaiser. Based on labs that I have already done at the University, I found that I enjoy working in a similar setting. I would love to have the opportunity to shadow a connoisseur in a similar work environment, as it would be a valuable learning experience. I come from a low-income family in Oakland, California. The economic barrier that has restricted my family has prevented us from moving out from where we live.

Goals are what keep us motivated to keep going and doing better than the day before. It is our goals that help us to keep pushing forward and be the best version of ourselves everyday. I have many professional and personal goals for myself.
College was always one of my long term goals as I continued with my education. Throughout the years I began to work harder and harder so I could secure my future. I knew that getting to college would not be easy. I am about to embark on a four year journey in one of the hardest fields to pursue. I will continue my education as a Nursing major at a four year university.
At this time in our very lives we are planning for the future and making a ladder for ourselves of goals to reach. As you climb higher on the ladder you find yourselves aspiring to take actions that may be more difficult than we imagined. This is just the beginning and we do not give up. As the years come faster I made a list of the things that I am planning on persuing. My major career goal is to go into buisness, and within the buisness industry I want to become a Human Resources Manager.
I would even write and illustrate my own books and would read it to the class. My interest in drawing has increase because it helps me with stress, makes people smile and I can control my anger. When I find myself stressed out, I can decrease that by taking at least 30 minutes out my day just to draw. It also clears my mind, drawing can be everything to some like me. Especially if you believe in the horoscope, it says that Virgo are good at drawing, I am a Virgo, so I believe in that.
