Four years after January 1933, Adolf Hitler took over Germany and him and the Nazi’s government instituted a series of measures aimed at taking over Germany’s Jewish citizens. May 1940 the Germans that entered World War II in September 1939 invaded the Netherlands and quickly made Jewish life dangerous. Between the summer of 1942 and September 1944, the Nazis destroyed more than 100,000 Jews in Holland to concentration camps. In early July 1942 after Anne’s sister Margot received a letter ordering her to report to a work camp in Germany, Anne’s family went into hiding in an attic apartment behind Anne’s dad’s Otto Frank’s business in Amsterdam.
Anne Frank and her family were hiding in an abandoned office building which was easy and hard in some ways to get access to. So there was a man named Jan Gies and he would go find food that they could eat and he would bring it to the office building they were in. This man you could say was almost like a part of Anne's family. That man risked everything for them and he was also Jewish and in hiding himself. But he spared his life and his hiding for random people he had just met to go and get them all food.
