Exploratory Childhood Education: US And Montessori Approach

It is a commonly shared belief that educating the young is vital to the culture of which they are apart. Over my many years in the educational field, I have come to learned of many different methods of educating our young. The two that resonated the most with me are the creative curriculum used US model, and the Montessori used British model. I was attracted to these because of the similarities also the differences. Two of the similarities are the exploratory learning environment and a structured curriculum with high educational outcomes. The two main differences are the approach to pedagogy and the actual outcome. In the UK Montessori method is commonly used, the approach is self-directed activity, hands-on learning, and collaborative play. Children are empowered to make creative choices in their learning, with age-appropriate guidance from the teacher. In the US creative curriculum method approach focuses on four areas of development: cognitive social/emotional, physical, and language. I could not imagine successfully teaching in a child lead learning environment. I went against the formal teacher/ student culture I know. This student/teacher culture develop over time, it became my reality and acceptable behavior. Under the creative curriculum method.
