Exploring The Relationship Between NASA And Outer Space

486 Words2 Pages

As of right now, NASA and other space stations have detected the signals from outer space but there has been no confirmation of life forms outside of Earth. “Explore, understand and explain the origin, nature and prevalence of life in the universe,” is the goal of the nonprofit SETI Institute. SETI,Search of Extraterrestrial Intelligence, is essentially the search for aliens. In our day and age, aliens are known as the ugly, monstrous creatures in movies, but in reality, we barely even know what they look like. We have identified signals from solar systems such as HD 164595 found by Russian astronomers and a massive lead on a signal from a civilization far more advanced than our own. Is there more life out in our solar system than signals can …show more content…

The main search for these life forms consists of using radio signals to find atmospheres of extrasolar planets and from there, SETI Researchers would analyze their quantities of oxygen and other chemicals. This would give a good indication of whether there is potential life on a planet. Signals can be identified through electromagnetic radiation, a form of energy that can be known as radio waves and gamma rays, to locate transmissions of the unknown. Radio waves were predicted to be an effective way to transmit signals because they are able to travel large distances between stars and have a reasonable power source. Photonics, another key element, is the generation, control, and detection of photons which are particles of light. Photonics is useful in uncovering alien life because advances in this scientific resource have allowed researchers to explore an even larger abundance of our universe. Other tools like telescopes have existed since 1608 and have been upgraded to see parts of our universe light years away. The RATAN-600 Telescope, for example, detected a radio signal 94 light years away from Earth. In addition, the Green Bank Telescope is the largest fully-steerable telescope with a 100 meter by 110 meter GBT dish. Currently, it is being used by SETI researchers to find a possible alien signal from Tabby’s Star. These are the basis of the tools and research done during excavations and astronomy
