50% is the average knowledge my classmates seem to know about Oakland’s culture and history, based on the survey I conducted. Even though I’ve lived in Oakland all my life, I still don’t know much about Oakland just like my classmates. To create something that can educate people while educating myself is an important part of my business. I recall having to create a slideshow about Oakland’s fun facts and having to spend two hour online because I didn’t know anything interesting about my city. Did you know the “wave” was invented at the Oakland Coliseum in 1981? I didn’t. Oakland has been portrayed as either negative or positive but rarely in between. Often there's no balance. To me, a photobook is considered the easiest book out there. Which is why, Get to know Oakland will come with a smart visual app that bring the still images to life by combining multiple technologies, for example image recognition, IOT, ML and augmented. On the other hand i'll include, historical information about the different locations of each cardinal points by adding a background story to each picture which will help the reader understand why it is an important side of Oakland. Get To Know Oakland would be focused on multiple, underrated part of Oakland, not just popular locations like Chinatown, lake Merrit and Jack London. I want to show people where our biggest organizations were founded like The Black Panther Party, or where the hidden places are, an example is the Kaiser rooftop lake.
