Should the academic school year be extended with more breaks? If we extend the school year with more breaks we will close the education gap, prevent summer learning loss, and students will be less stressed with more time to do work. There are definite advantages of extending the school year to a year around calendar. The first reason we should go to school year around with more breaks is to close the education gap between countries. Here in America we go to school and average of 180 days, while in Britain they go an average of 192 days and in Japan they go an average of 243 days. Time out of school leads to the achievement gap between countries. If we extended our school year we will not be as far behind academically. Others say that students will not get to get to the outside world. They also think that students should be studying over summer break. But if we extend the school year with more breaks students will be able to be outside during their breaks and will have time during the colder months just like they already do in the summer months and since they will be going year around they wont need to study. Most students are stressed out about school a lot of the time and adding more breaks will allow them more time to get their work done. Students who do not normally do homework may now do it because they have more time to complete it. Adding more breaks would prevent stress on the students. Others say that students have plenty of time to get their work done. They also say that students need to learn responsibility. Even though students might have enough time for their work they should still have time to do other things for their own entertainment and it is hard to be responsible when teachers are always giving home work every
