McCullough, David. 1776. New York: Simon & Schuster, 2005. In this book, 1776, David McCullough uses strong and effective voices to describe the soldiers and the patriots during the Revolutionary War in the United States. The author describes how the Americans squabbling, disparate colonies to became the United States, and how the British Empire tried to stop them.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. Perhaps the most famous line from the Declaration of Independence, written on July 4, 1776. 1776 by David McCullough is about just that: the year 1776, though it does mention events in previous and following years, in American history. McCullough’s purpose for writing the book is very clear: to educate readers about the details of the American Revolutionary War from the view of both sides in and around 1776. McCullough achieves this through mostly logos, but uses ethos and pathos just as well.
After reading “The View From the Bottom Rail,” explore the CD-ROM on that chapter. The Revolutionary War was just starting and McCullough brings to the surface, the events and different views during this turning point. The book 1776 covers the intense situations the American army faced that made winning against the British seemed almost futile. Lengthy research was done to make this book possible and with it, McCullough sends an important message to the readers. 1776, the birth year of America and the Declaration of Independence, took much more than imagined to endure.
Hollywood often portrays historical events in movies, making them dramatic and sometimes, complete lies. The movie, The Patriot, is a good example of several dramatized historical events. The Patriot is a movie based on events that happened during the Revolutionary War. Although the movie made up new fictional characters and added in scenes, it still depicts somewhat real history but not really. I believe that the movie, The Patriot, is not at all accurate because Benjamin Martin is not a real person, the Continental Army did not retreat to the designated spot behind the rise and Colonel Tarleton (Tavington) did not die in battle.
2. The book 1776 is a very well written book that discusses and informs the reader of events of the many events and battles that had occurred during the American Revolution. The author David McCullough has even written from both the viewpoints of the Americans and the British as well. The opening scene of the book begins with a very in-depth description of King George III of England as he traverses through London on his magnificent royal transportation. The reason McCullough introduces King George III, as the first scene is to show how things were on the British side of the war.

The American Revolution is almost like the civil war, but it happened in the late 1700s. It is split into three parts - patriots, loyalists, and neutralists - instead of two. The movie, The Patriot, is a fictional movie that shows us a couple of the battles and the life of colonials, focusing on Benjamin Martin, in South Carolina during the American Revolution. You would wonder why people really want to go for a war when they already know what the outcome is going to be. Some people were forced to fight because of the death of their family members, caused by the opponent, whereas others did not fight because they did not want to risk their families even though both of the kind of people were patriots.

The Patriot is a movie filmed displaying the time of the American Revolution, it is a very historically inaccurate film that features few historical accuracies. The Patriot offers inaccurate character portrayal, cultural details and social details. The few dainty accuracies of the film include apparel, battle occurence, and gun usage. As the movie progresses many parts throughout the film do not align with proper historical accuracy. The inaccuracies may seem true to the common eye but with proper intel it is clearly seen to be erroneous.
Every immigrant group has been stereotyped in Hollywood since the 19th Century. But in the case of ignorance towards black people, white people have created prejudice that has made the stereotypes last untill now. Gone with the wind, a 1939 Epic Civil War drama, shows slaves as well-treated, cheerful, and loyal to their masters. Slaves are portrayed as normal employees, and these are rewarded with presents if they’ve been appropriately loyal. This movie portrays slavery unrealistically and childlike.
The movie The Patriot is about the American Civil War of Liberation that occurred in the 1770s. In this film, you will see Americans who is fighting against the British military for freedom. Benjamin Martin once proved a great heroism during the war against the French and Indians. Then he retired, bought a farm and married a woman with whom he formed a large family.
The Birth of a Nation, by D.W. Griffith, in my belief, is a prime example of why the present world is so ignorant of the past. Because the techniques in the movie were so exceptional at the time, this misinterpretation of the reconstruction period was widespread. When the movie came out, I believe many people were not well enough informed to distinguish between the truth and the distorted. Due to stereotypes and misleading information, it could have been simple to portray African-Americans as distasteful, ill-mannered beings and, contrarily, the Ku Klux Klan as gallant protectors, resulting in the audience misconceiving the truth. As I watched The Birth of a Nation, I was able to compare the misconstrued idea of Reconstruction to what I read in chapter fifteen of our textbook, by Eric Foner.
