Extraordinary Themes of To Kill a Mockingbird
“Remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird,” says Scout Finch, the narrator of Harper Lee’s renowned novel To Kill a Mockingbird (119). Lee is a southern author and private person who witnessed segregation. Of the few novels Lee published in years, To Kill a Mockingbird is by far Lee’s most successful novel. To Kill a Mockingbird takes place in a fictional place called Maycomb, Alamaba, and is set in segregation. A young girl's story and a darker drama about the roots and consequences of racism and prejudice, To Kill a Mockingbird shows how good and evil can exist within a single community or individual (Lee 3-376). Education is critical the more education the better it will affect your life. The Ewells go to school only on the first day (Lee 34). The Ewells have almost no education since they only go on the first day, which is not enough. Atticus explains to the kids about the mob and its importance (Lee 203). Atticus is brilliant; he understands the situation and most of all, understands the importance. “In Calpurnia’s teaching, there was sentimentality; I should say thank you to her and she did help me,” Scout says (Lee 35-26). Showing signs of respect to others means you can accept somebody for who they are, even when they're different from you or you disagree with them. The Cunninghams don’t receive or gain the respect they deserve (Lee 33). Since they have a low profit they received little money respect which gave them little respect for others. Scout explains Boo carried Jem home after Bob Ewell attacked him (Lee 352). Boo is very private and shy but goes out of his way to save children who are scared of him. “He was going around the corner. He was caring Jem.”( Lee 351-353).
