Journal #3 Novel Study Fahrenheit 451 Set in the futuristic world controlled by media, Fahrenheit 451 tells the story of the protagonist Montag, a fireman whose job is to burn book, his search for knowledge and self-identity. Books are considered illegal and banned because they make people think and question. I feel sympathy for Montag as his wife does not have any emotional attachment to him as she only care about her “family” on the parlor walls and betrayed Montag by reporting to the firemen that he has books in his possession. Montag also faces numbers of obstacles in his journey for self-identity. Fahrenheit 451 shares many similarities of the setting in the novel The Giver.

Ray Bradbury’s book, Fahrenheit 451, is a very interesting book about fireman who burns books. Aren’t firemen supposed to put fires out? “You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.” Not in this story.

The both show us similarities, and differences from one another. The book was predicting that our generation now could have a lot of technological advances, but Albert made things in his time that I think we still have or use. The book had its prediction and war at that time, and Albert made predictions real with war going on as well.
Montag, the main character, is a “fireman” and he loves to burn the books. He starts reading some of the books, then falls in love with them. After he has read them, he has to burn them, but Montag does not want to. He rebels against the rules and ends up getting caught. All his belongings were burnt down due to Beatty, a fireman, made Montag set his own house on fire.

In Ray Bradbury's eerie society, reading is very short, and news are read in one column, two sentences form. In our world today, people want reading to be short, so they look to twitter for news with the 140 word count limit.
