In the events of Fahrenheit 451, there are similarities to modern-day society and what the author, Ray Bradbury depicts, which can be demonstrated by people being blindly controlled by others, through false information and being put in front of time-sucking devices. Have you ever wondered if the things you see and hear on social media and in life are true? In order to be the best version of ourselves, one must understand that not everything we read and hear is credible. Let’s look at the similarities between Fahrenheit 451, a book published in 1953, and our world today. The government in Fahrenheit 451 was not able to find Montag, therefore to bring peace of mind to their society, the government lied about Montag being a threat to society. In the end, an innocent man was killed. Data shows how social media can disrupt us socially, emotionally, and physically. Yet our government has done nothing to stop the next generations from becoming controlled by social media, similar to the falsehood shown throughout Fahrenheit 451. We can see that in life, technology and social media are distracting us from our true purpose, similar to government control in Fahrenheit 451. In Fahrenheit 451, Montag shows how the Parlor walls are brainwashing Mildred, “Mildred kicked at a book. ’Books aren't people,' he said. You read and I look all around, but there isn't anybody!’ He stared at the parlor that was dead and gray as the waters electronic
